A married man (Rex Harrison) is having an affair with a show girl (Patricia Cutts) and then one night he discovers her dead body in her room. He is the prime suspect due to circumstancial evidence and is put on trial. Whilst the evidence builds up against Rex Harrison, his wife (Lilli Palmer) stands by him and meanwhile the real killer starts befriending her. The film is about how an innocent man copes with being charged with murder, when he knows he is innocent, and with the second half being the trial. Rex Harrison is good in the lead and there is good support from Lilli Palmer as his wife and Anthony Dawson is suitably creepy as the real murderer.
