A teenage boy who gets caught after a petty theft is sent to a reform school where his long distance running ability comes to the attention of the governor. As he copes with the bullying, he reflects back on his life and his relationships and priorities. This is a gritty British drama from the 1960's with good performances from Tom Courtenay in the central role and James Bolam as his friend trying to come to terms with being working class teenagers in the English Midlands in the early 1960's. This is a good example of this British genre of film.
