A man who is a permanent student (Noah Wyle), with no social life or girl friend gets a magical invite for a job in The Library. This is the secret repository of lots of historical artefacts run by Jane Curtin and Bob Newhart. When one of the artefacts is stolen, he has to go travelling accross the world to retreive it. He is helped by a female bodyguard (Sonya Walger) whilst other people (Kyle MacLachlan and Kelly Hu) are out to stop him and get the artefact for themselves.
