A New York apple seller (May Robson) has told her daughter (Jean Parker) that she is part of high society, but then her daughter arrives from Spain with the aristocratic family she wants to marry into. She enlsits the help of a gangster (Warren William) to set up a party that makes her look like a society lady. This early Frank Capra film is a mix of comedy that plays on class differences and also supoorting friends. There is a good performance from May Robson in the lead role for which she got an Oscar nomination as did Frank Capra for best director and film.
