In Sydney in 1959 a young woman (Angourie Rice) leaving school gets a summer job over Christmas in the dress department of a department store where she meets three different women (Julia Ormond, Rachael Taylor and Alison McGirr) who work there and all their lives are transformed by the experience. Julia Ormond is good as the European immigrant who takes the young girl under her wing and finds a lover for one of the other girls. Angourie Rice is also good as the teenager trying to find her place in the world who is engaging and charming. This is a gentle drama about relationships in a style that is rare in modern films as it is withouit sex, violence and profanity.
