This is the story of the popular entertainer Joe E Lewis played by Frank Sinatra. He started as a night club singer but when he moves from one night club to another, the mob boss who owned the first club get him beaten up and his throat cut so that he cannot sing. Several year later his old pianist gets him back on stage and he becomes a commedian. However his drinking and gambling, whilst being part of his act, take a toll on both his personal life and his health. Fank Sinatra gives a good performance well supported by Jeanne Crain and Mitzi Gaynor as the women in his life.
