In early 1930's Berlin an aspiring writer and aspiring actress and singer meet up and develop a platonic friendship. The film is based on the Broadway play of the same name which in turn was based in the writings of Christopher Isherwood from his time in Berlin. Julie Harris gives a good performance as Sally Bowles a role she had played on Broadway. For some strange reason all the clother are 1950's styles rather than 1930's styles. The story was later turned into the Broadway musical and then the film, Caberet.
