Robert Mitchum is a gambler who gets persuaded to be involved a plot to get a criminal to return to the USA and gets involved with Jane Russell and Vincent Price along the way. Robert Mirchum and Jane Russell do their best with a slow plot. Jane Russell looks good in her various low cut outfits and Vincent Price gives a good performance asthe ham actor relishing his own screen performance, but overall the pace of the film is too slow in places. The plot has a variety of spoofs on other film noir movies, although apart from Vincent Price the comedy is erratic. Howard Hughes got involved in re-shooting parts of the film to enhance the role of Jane Russell who he had brought to RKO when he bought RKO.
