Comment/Synopsis
A newspaper reporter tries to win back his ex-wife and top newspaper reporter when she announces she is about to marry an insurance salesman. He persuades her to write a story about a man about to be executed for the murder of a policeman. This is a fast paceed comedy that deals with the excessess of the newsaper industry as well as race, politics and the death penalty. Cary Grant is very good as the fast talking reporter who will do anything to get a story and Rosalind Bellamy as the reporter wanting to settle down, get married and have a family, but still drawn to the thrill of the story. This film has stood the test of time both in terms of its social comment and its comedy and is one of the classic screwball comedies.
