In a post apocalyptic world, America is run by a totalitarian religious elite in which women have very defined roles. Only a few women are fertile and their role is to provide children to the elite. Natasha Richardson plays one of these girls who then starts to rebel.
Based on the novel by Margaret Atwood and a screenplay from Harold Pinter.
