After his horse wins the Grand National the owner (Nigel Patrick) has an argument with his drunken wife (Moira Lister) and accidentally kills her and then covers up his crime. She wanted to leave him and he was also having an affair. The police plod through a small series of clues whilst whilst other people help over for him. This is a dour British murder film that struggles with being based on stage play.
