A stuffy school teacher has his life changed when he meets and marries a music hall singer. The film charts his life and love from the 1920's through to the 1950's. Peter O'Toole gives a good performance as Mr Chips with his passion for taching and his love for his wife who was from a very different social and cultural scene. Petula Clark also gives a good performance as his wife who moves from musical theatre and the theatrical set to being the wife of a school master in a boys public school. There is also a good small supporting role from Sian Phillips as one of her theatrical friends.
