Comment/Synopsis

A gambler in South America get a job in a Casino, which goes well until his boss brings home a new wife who is his ex-girlfriend. The relationship between Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford is a love / hate relationship that sizzles with sexual tension. The actual plot is nothing special, though the twist keeps the interest in the plot. The film though is all about the performance of Rita Hayworth who combines vulnerability, strength, passion and understated sexuality. She manages to both attract and repel men at the same time and it was this film that helped set her as one of Hollywood's top sex symbols of the 1940's. The Dance to Amndo Mio in particular sets up her sensuality in an understated way.
