The son a Scottish Lord is killed without honour and becomes a ghost until he can atone for his failure. Some 200 years later the current owner of the castle needs money to pay off his debts, so puts the castle up for sale. A young American woman (Jean Parker) persuades her wealthy father to buy the castle and transport it back to American stone by stone. Robert Donat plays the curent owner and his ghostly ancester, whilst Jean Parker is the American heiress, but who needed to be a bit more feisty. This was French director Rene Clair's first English language film.
