Heath Ledger's regiment is about to be sent to the Sudan in the 1880's, just a few days after he gets engaged to Kate Hudson. Rather than going to fight he resigns his commission. His friends and fiance take as cowardice and each send him a white feather. In an attempt to redeem himself he goes out to the Sudan, where undercover with the Mardi's fighters he tries to help his friends. This is a good adaptation of the novel and of love, cowardice, heroism, redemption and the futility and cost of war.
