A space ship is sent to find out why there has been silence from an expedition sent to explore a planet. When they arrive they discover that there are only two survivors, a scientist (Walter Pidgeon) and his beautiful daughter (Anne Francis). They are aided by a robot that he has made. As they try and discover what happened to the rest of the original crew, they find that the scientist and the planet has a dangerous secret. What makes this Sci-Fi film stand out from the other Sci-Fi films of the 1950's is the wonderful Robbie The Robot, and the performance of Anne Francis as the woman who has never never seen a man before, and who wears some very skimpy outfits. This was an early film that is set on a different planet rather than being earth based. The effects and the robot were then influential on other films. This portrayal of a robot was influential on thinking about robots at the time as it was partially anthropomorphic but still mechanical.
