Comment/Synopsis

An ageing vampire hunter and his inept assistant (Roman Polanski) find evidence of a vampire in a Transylvanian village. When the daughter (Sharon Tate) of the inn keeper is abducted by the vampire count they go to his castle to rescue her and kill the count. Roman Polanski wrote, directed and acted in his interpretation of thje vampire/dracula theme. It is a strange mix of humour and horror against a well produced gothic background. The humour is not great and the script moves slowly in places. It ends up as a film Roman Polanski had a passion for but not a film that had a wide appeal at the box office. There is an unusual but effective musical score from Christopher Komeda.
