A tyrannical department store manager, will stop at nothing to for his own success including contempt for his workers and and using women for his own ends. He gives a woman a job after spending the night with her, but she then falls in love and marries the man he is grooming for promotion. A s a way of control over them he spends another night with her. The manager expects total loyalty and see marriage as a way women take men away from their work but at the same time he will use and manipulate them for his own ends. Part of the film is about corporate greed at the expense of people and part pre-code sexuality and adultery.
