In a universe far away two planets are involved in a battle to control a planet where spice is mined that is the most valuable commodity in the universe as it can be used to curve space-time and so travel between galaxies, but other forces are also at work. It is always going to be a challenge to trnasfer the book to the big screen given the length and complexity of the novel and this only covers the first half. Whilst the production and CGI are impressive, the film it let down by the acting which is very flat and passionless. Timothee Chalamet is not convincing in the lead role. Whilst it won 6 Oscars and and was nominated for 4 others including best picture, it is no surprise that none were in acting categories. It is hard to compare with the earlier David Lynch version that manged to compress the whole book into a single film, but that film was better acted.
