Dr Jekyll invents a drug that separates his good and bad natures and creates the violent and unpleasnt side of him Mr Hyde. This is a very good version of story with a performance from Fredric HYde and deservedly won him a Best Actor Oscar. The transition scenes are vvery well done by Rouben Mamoulin that set a standard for horror make-up. This being a pre-code film the violent and mysogenistic side of Hyde is prominent giving this a darker feel than some ohter versions. There are also some scenes that reflect something of the German Expressionaist style of film making. Miriam Hopkins also gives a very good performance of the abused and trapped by by the violence of mr Hyde.
