A man (Lionell Atwill) recounts to his friend (Cesar Romero) his obsessive love for a woman (Marlene Dietrich) who uses abuses every man she comes across, and the two fall out when they both come under her spell. The film has a differnt take to other comtemporary romantic films as Lionell Atwill is besotted with Marlene Dietrich but she repeatly uses him and then tosses him aside for other men. She is both manipulative and crueland uses her sexuality for her own selfish ends. The production quality is impressive and marlene Dietrich's outfits are wonderful. This was the last of six films in which Josef von Sternberg worked with Marlene Dietrich.
