Guy Pearce is Harry Houdini who whilst on touring Britain in the 1920's offers a cash prize to anyone who can tell him his mothers dying words. Catherine-Zeta Jones has a psychic act with her daughter Saoirse Ronan and whillst trying to win the money she has a relationship with Guy Pearce. This is a bland attempt at a love story and a superficial look at the spiritualism behind Houdini's life. Timothy Spall gives a good performance as Houdini's manager but the star of the film is Saoirse Ronan whose charm comes through her performance as the person through whose eyes the film is told.
