Comment/Synopsis

A political party is in deadlock for the nomination of the next governor, so a random person is nominated (Guy Kibbee). They employ a campaign manager (Warren Williams) who is in jail for non-payment of alimony. They get him out by paying the money, but things are complicated by his ex-wife (Vivienne Osborne), the secretary (Bette Davis) and his opponents. This is an entertaining and comic mix of politics, propaganda and relationships. Guy Kibbe plays up to his incompetent political character, Warren Williams is good as wise guy con-man and Vivienne Osborne is entertaining as the ex-wife playing off the different sides for the money. Bette Davis gives a good performance as usual, but her character gives her less scope to shine than in other films. Overall this is an entreating film with good performances.
