Comment/Synopsis

Classic British World War 2 film of the development and use of the bouncing bombs by 617 Squdron to destroy dams used for the German war effort. Emphasis on the heroism of the British rather than the futility of the exercise. This is a film of two halves. The first is Barnes Wallace (Michael Redgrave) developing the bouncing bomb and the second half is Guy Gibson (Richard Todd) actually leading the raid on the dams. The first half of the film is basically a docudrama of the development of the bomb that had input from Barnes Wallace. The story is based on Guy Gibson's account of the raid.
