A nightclub dancer gets picked to feature on the cover of a magazine and so gets torn between the lure of fame and the man she loves. For a musical, there is a decent story running through the film, with a nice sub plot set 40 years earlier that parallels her life. This gives an opportunity for some extra musical and dance numbers in different costumes. This was the film that made Rita Hayworth a major star as she acted and danced through the film , although her singing voice was dubbed. During filming she married Orson Welles. The musical numbers were cheoreographed by Gene Kelly on elaborate sets that that he designed. Particularly inventive is when he dances with his ghost. The film looks good thanks to being filmed in Technicolor. There is a nice comeo from Eve Arden.
