A business man corners the market in wheat, forces up the price of bread causing hardship to the farmers and the poor town folk. The plot has a moralising tone not uncommon for D W Griffith with an obvious Biblical reference to the man storing up wealth in a barn. What makes this film notable is the cross cutting between the parallel stories between the rich and the poor.
