Comment
The son (David Tomlinson) of a wealthy landowner (A E Matthews) stands for parliament in a seat his family have held for generations, but is beaten by the Labour candidate. When the new MP is moves to the House of Lords he stands again, but this time for Labour. This annoys his American fiance (Helen Backlin), who persuades his butler to stand as the conservative candidate. Meanwhile he develops affections for the maid (Lana Morris). This is a lightweight British political comedy, highlighting the lack of difference between the political parties. The socail comment coming from the butler, the American and the maid. If you want a more thoughtful comment on the butler becoming the politician see the earlier 1938 film The Baroness And The Butler.
