A ship is sent to investigate possible smuggling on the Romsey Marshes which is being orchestrated by the local vicar (Peter Cushing) under cover of the the local myth that phantoms patrol the marshes and frighten people to death. This is one of Hammer's better historical films, that is helped by a good supporting cast of Patrick Allen as the Captain investigating the smuggling and Oliver Reed as the chharming young man after the local seving wench (Yvonne Romain).
