When the young daughter of a woman disappears from her nursery, the woman calls in the police, but the problem is that the police can find no evidence that the young girl ever existed. There is a good performance from Carol Lynley as the mother becoming increasingly frantic and opposite her is Laurence Olivier as the police inspector and a cameo from Noel Coward as the leacherous landlord of her flat. Keir Dullea is less convincing as the strange brother. laurence Olivier is good in a role that is different from most of his roles. It also benefits from a firm and well paced direction from Otto Preminger.
