Comment/Synopsis

The daughter (Claudette Colbert) of a poor French aristocrat (Edwar Everett Horton) marries an arrogant American millionaire (Gary Cooper) after a chance meeting. After finding that he has been married seven times before she still decides to marry him with a prenuptual agreement but with a plan to tame him. Claudette Colbert is very good in this romantic comedy. The opening scene is one of the best meet cutes in film. With Cary Grant arguing with a shop that he only wants the top from a pair of pyjamas, she sees him, is attracted to him and offers to buy the trousers. There are some some other good comic scenes but the script is a bit uneven.
