The middle aged teacher (Emil Jannings) at a boys school discovers that the boys are visiting a club in town. He visits to stop them and meets the the beautiful singer (Marlene Dietrich). Despite being opposites, they start an affair, get married and go on tour together This is an early German sound film that was made in a German and English version. It was the film that launched Marlene Dietrich onto her career and she displays the sex appeal that was her trademark and contains her signature song "Falling in love again".However it is the performance of Emil Jannings that make this film a classic as he moves from boring middle aged teacher, to a man head over heels in love with a caberet singer, to a man humiliated and broken.
