An aristocrat in Yorkshire in the late 19th century in need of money has affairs, marries and murders in order to get what he wants with dire consequences for those around him. The script is not the best and the direction quite stilted but not bad for a made for television film of the period. The film is based on the novel by Catherine Cookson.
