Comment/Synopsis

A woman (Miriam Hopkins) arrives in San Francisco in the middle of the gold rush only to find that the man she was due to marry is dead. She gets a job working the rouette wheel in a club run by the local gangster (Edawrd G Robinson). She meets and falls for in innocent prospecter (Joel McCrae) and is caught between her loyalty to both men and all this is set against a background of the peole of San Francisco tryng to get rid of the gangster and his hired killers (Brian Donlevy). This is a good film thanks to the performances of Edward G Robnson, Miriam Hopkins and Joel McCrea.
