In Paris in 1938 a refugee doctor (Charles Boyer) saves a woman (Ingrid Bergman) from committing suicide after her boyfriend dies. He is after revenge on a Nazi who killed his friend. Their developing relationship is complicated by their pasts and the coming war. The plot is uneven, but there are good performances from both Ingrid bergman and Charles Boyer.
