Comment/Synopsis
A female pirate (Jean Peters) falls in love and when betrayed seeks revenge. The film plays out with the usual swashbuckling stereotypes, events and action. However what Jacques Tourneur managesis nto overlay these standard ideas with a woman falling in love for the first time, beeing betrayed by him, finding he is married and then seeking revenge whatever the cost to herself and others. The concept of a female pirate captain is never going to be convincing, nor is Jean Peters in that role, whilst Debra Paget only role is as the damsel in distress. This is not the best Jacques Tourneur, but is a differnt take on the pirate theme.
