A police detective (Melvyn Douglas) is engaged to the mayor's secretary (Joan Blondell), but is more interested in his job than her. She will only marry him if he leaves the police force and so tries an assortment of ways to get him sacked or to resign whilst the chief of police does all he can to keep him. This is a light weight romance set against some crime and a few comic momemnts. There is an entertaining performance from Joan BLondell and supported by Ruth Donnelly as her friend.
