A research station in the Arctic finds an alien artefact that is emitting a radio signal. James Spader is an academic cryptologist sent to help them decipher the signal but who had also previously been involved in SETI. He decodes it as Do not open, but too late. The plot of the film borrows from various other sci-fi films and it has some plot weaknesses including why build an underground hydroponics research lab to grow crops at the South Pole? This is an average alien filmin which James Spader is OK but not at his best and John Lynch's character is just annoying.
