A teenage boy goes on a quest to find the fabled midas box that turns things into gold when his parents and brother are kidnapped. This Victorian era fantasy adventure is well filmed with some visually impressive sets, though the plot does have its weaknessess. Sam Neill and Lena Headey give suitably creepy performances as the evil masterminds. Keeley Hawes talents are very underused, though it is the understated performance of Mella Carron as the young serving girl who gives the strong performance.
