Workers on an underwater drilling platform aid the USA navy in rescuing a submarine that they think the Russians have sunk. However their problems start when a hurracaine strikes and they loose contact with the suface support vessel. As tensions rise between the civilian researchers and the navy personal, a new life form is found that is composed of water.
A well paced plot with some excellent special effects that builds well though to a slightly predicable climax. The film is notable for the computer graphics that generated the water creature with the facial expressions and were a step forward in James Cameron's use of CGI/FX that were produced by Industrial Light And Magic. This was also a major financial success. The story started life as a short story by a young James Cameron.
