Octavia Spencer is an actress who has starred in a number of successful films and has also won and been nominated for two Oscars. Although dyslexic, she went through school and university. Her first film role was a small role in A Time To Kill. THis was followed by years of small parts in films and on television. This continued until she landed the role in The Help, which was her breakthrough film and won her the Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
Fruitvale Station was a film with a social comment. She then moved into big science fiction with films like Snowpiercer and the Divergent series. Hidden Figures was a big critical and commercial success and gained her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination. The Shack was the film version of the book of Christian philosophy. This was followed by Guillermo del Toro's science fiction film The Shape of Water which gained her another Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.
Ma was a psychological thriller. The Witches was the remake from director Robert Zemeckis and produced by Guillermo del Toro but set in 1960's Alabama. Encounter was a return to science fiction. Spirited was a change of genre into musical romantic comedy.
