Ryan Gosling is a Canadian actor who has appeared in various commercially succesful films. His early career was in a few television series, but his first significant film role was in The Believer. He gave a good performance in what was a contrversial film. It was The Notebook that made him a star and made him a romantic lead. He was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his role as the drug addicted teacher in Half Nelson. Fracture was a court room drama. After a couple of romance films (Blue Valentine, Cray Stupid Love) he stared in the political satire The Ides Of March. Drive is a crime thriller where he plays a stunt/getaway driver and in which he did most of his own driving. The Place Beyond the Pines was another dark film playing a stunt motorcyclist. The Big Short is an examination of the lead up to the 2008 financial crisis and the US mortgage market. In the comedy The Nice Guys he plays an inept private detective. The musical La La Land was a huge commercial success and he was Oscar nominated as Best Actor. Blade Runner 2049 was the follow up to the classic science fiction film Blade Runner. First man was a biopic of Neil Armstrong and the build up to landing on the moon. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor Oscar as Ken in the fantasy comedy Barbie.
