Career / Biography

Errol Flynn was known for his action and swashbuckling roles. He was brought up in Australia and his firat screen role was in the low budget film In The Wake Of The Bounty. He moved to England and was signed by Warner Bros who moved him to Hollywood and his first staring role in Captain Blood. This was a swashbuckling film and shot him to stardom. He followed this with The Charge of the Light Brigade which became controversial due to the number of horses who died during the filming causing him to fall out with director Michael Curtiz, but he did make 12 films with each other mainly action films. Although he was making his reputation in action films he did alos appear in romantic comedies like The Perfect Specimen. Probably his most successful film was the 1938 Adventures Of Robin Hood in which he again worked with Olivia de Haviland. This was one of 8 films they made together. In the early 1940's he appeared in several war films after he was rejected for war service due to his health. After the war his career struggled as swashbuckling historical drama's were no longer popular. He changed styles with films like the noir styled Cry Wolf and westerns like Silver River. In the early 1950's he was released from his contract with Warner Bros and his creer declined and his health declined due to his alochol abuse. He continued to make a few films and did get critical praise for his role in The Roots Of Heaven. He was married three times including to Lili Damita and Patrice Wymore.
