Career / Biography

Oliver Stone is a producer, director and writer of films, particularly known his Vietnam war films and Wall Street. He is an influential though at times controversial film maker reflecting America in the late 1980's and 1990's. He enlisted in the army and served as a soldier in Vietnam. he then studied film which led to his first film as a director, the horror film Seizure. The Hand was another horror film. He then wrote several screenplays (Midnight Express and Conan The Barbarian). His first major film was Salvador. It was the Platoon that was his major breakthrough as a director. He drew on his own experiences of fighting in Vietnam and the film won the Best Picture Oscar and the Best Director Oscar. His next film was Wall Street one of the defining films of the excessives of the 1980's. He returned to the Vietnam war with the biopic Born on the Fourth of July and earned him his second Best Director Oscar. Following his exploration of the rock band The Doors he make JFK and the the events surrounding the assasination. Heaven and Earth was his final film set in Vietnam. Natural Birn Killer was commercially successful and also controversial. This was his satire on American violence. Nixon was another biopic, this time of the US president. U Turn was a crime thriller. Any Given Sunday was an American Football drama with a star cast. Alexander was different as an historical biopic. He returned ti finance with Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
