He started his career in the early 1990's making music videos and then made his first feature film, The Replacement Killers in 1998. This was follwed by Bait which he had to take over part way through. His next film was the action thriler Training Day that had Oscars for best actor and best supporting actor. WithKing Arthur he removed the magic and almost created the seven samurai but in period. The Shooter enhanced his reputation to make action films. With Brooklyn's FInest he reverts to police corruption. With Olympus Has Fallen the plot is nonsense but but it was a commercial action success. The Equaliser is a mix of character and action. With Southpaw he made a variation on the boxing movie to have more character development in the film. In 2016 he remake The Magnificent Seven.
