In a future world where people live their lives by remotely operating realistic androids remotely from the safety of their own homes. In an apparently uotpian world where people live lonely but apparently consequence free lives, Bruce Willis gets involved when real people start dying and he uncovers a plot to kill all the people using surrogates. The film borrows from a whole range of other films, but is carried by the performances from Bruce Willis, Radha Mitchell (his police partner) and Rosamund Pike (his wife).
