When a young woman's father is killed in a amining accident, she goes to work as a waitress in the restaurant of her aunt. There she meets a medical student from a rich family. They fall in love, but his mother objects and splits them up by getting her sent to prison on a false trumped up charge. On her release she joins the theatre and becomes a major star. The film is dominated by the performance from Barbara Stanwyck which shows the range of her abilities. The plot is not original, poor girl meets rich man and family disapprove, and has been done better , but is still worth watching for Barbara Stanwyck.
