During the depression the owner of a timber company (Bradley Cooper) meets and marries a woman (Jennifer Lawrence) whose dead family also ran a timber business but their relationship is ultimately ill-fated. Desite the presence of Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, this film falls down due to the plot and the editing. There is no continuity in the story as it jumps from scene to scene. Some scenes add nothing to the story and other scenes seem to be missing. The other problem is that neither of the two main characters are particularly endearing, with both having unpleasant traits. Jennifer Lawrence is also not well cast and not convincing as a woman with experience of the timber business and working men.
