In Vietnam in the early 1950's Michael Caine has a quiet job as a reporter for a british newspaper. He has a wife in London but prefers his lover in Vietnam. The situation is confused when doctor Brendan Foster arrives and also falls in love with Do Thi Hai Yen and the newspaper recalls Michael Caine to London. He decides to go up country to write a story that will convince the newspaper to let him stay. The film has a good mix between the action scenes and the romance elements and has good performances from Michael Caine and Do Thi Hai Yen.
