Comment/Synopsis
A woman picks up a drunken man and takes him on a ride to see a man, leaves him on the road and she is then killed. Months later a body is found and the police and a forensic academic have to identify the body and the killer. John Sturges directed what is basically a film noir but with an emphasis on early forensic science which makes unusual for the time. Whilst the killer is revealed early on, the interest in the film is how the body was identified and how the killer was brought to justice even after the wrong person had been arrested. The best performance is from Elsa Lanchester as the landlady.
