Comment/Synopsis

A man (Griffith Jones) on fishing holiiday catches a mermaid (Glynis Johns) who takes him to her cave. She persuades him to take her to his home in London on the pretence that she is an invalid. Her beauty and charm start to affect the various men she comes into contact with. This is a wonderfully fun British comedy, with Glynis Johns as the beautiful mermaid with an innocent charm with the men. The best performance is from Googie Withers as the wife of the doctor, who puts up with this beauty disrupting the lives of her friends and then working out what is happenng. Margaret Rutherford is entertaining as the eccentric nurse brought in to help. There are good performances from David Tomlinson and Yvonne Owen as the staff and Sonia Holm as the friend of the wife. Despite being made in the 1940's, it is still entertaining thanks to the quality of the writing and the acting of Googie Withers and Margaret Rutherford.
